RIP Nathaniel Mayer (2-10-44 to 11-1-08)

Rhythm ‘n’ blues singer Nathaniel Mayer has died, aged 64, from complications following a series of strokes.

Mayer, who was known for his energetic vocal style and stage show, had recently collaborated with young artists, including The Black Keys, on his 2005 album ‘Why Don’t You Give It To Me?’.

This helped him gain a resurgence in popularity following a more than three-decade absence from the music industry.

Mayer, who was an avid follower of James Brown, died on Saturday (November 1) in Detroit, according to his MySpace page.

The message reads: “It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our dear friend Nathaniel Mayer. After many months of complications and illnesses following a series of strokes, Nathaniel left us November 1, 2008. He will always be in our hearts.”
