where do you go to see your tumblr crushes?

Oh, well I wish tumblr would make a better way to view who you’re following, in pages or something because viewing over 1,000 on one page froze my computer!

Da Ming Hun Yi Tu world map (1389)
“China developed sophisticated mapping techniques at about the same time as ancient Rome, and never lost them, so by the ‘medieval’ period the country had been mapped with considerable detail and accuracy. When European mapping techniques caught up again at about AD 1300, Islamic contacts were able to supply new maps of the Mediterranean area to China, via the communication routes in the Mongol Empire and these prompted Chinese scholars to create world maps, with China at the centre and Europe, half-way round the globe, depicted very small and horizontally compressed at the edge. Significantly, Africa was also mapped from an Indian Ocean perspective, showing the Cape of Good Hope area, which Europeans would not visit until much later.”

yeah ok

I must just not be smoking enough or doing it wrong. I could probably easily fall back into it, but I need motivation at this point in my life, not chips & dip and a day-long beavis & butthead marathon. Although that does sound kind of fun.

allandonly:

Put all the sad songs on repeat (because those are the ones we both loved). Sometimes when I stare at photographs, it feels like they could come to life in my hands. Like they could start moving, like you could start talking in that 5”x7” frame. I don’t get what this is supposed to mean anymore. Did it ever mean anything? Why do things have to have a meaning in the first place? It’s human nature. Stop talking. Pretend to sleep. Start dreaming.

well-said.

Bill Owens was born in San Jose California in 1938 and after stints with the peace corps and some international travel, finally found his place as a photographer for the “Livermore Independent” newspaper. In 1968 he was contacted by the AP to cover a Rolling Stones concert at Altamont where he created his first iconic photographs. Following Altamont, Bill took up a personal project called “Suburbia” documenting the urban sprawl of his own community. This project became legendary and not only earned him a Guggenheim Fellowship but made him an iconic figure in modern photography.Bill Owens was born in San Jose California in 1938 and after stints with the peace corps and some international travel, finally found his place as a photographer for the “Livermore Independent” newspaper.
