Jell-O Cocktail Trumpery by Kandice Levero and Julia Greene for the Jell-O Mold Competition…

On Saturday we checked out the Jell-O Mold Competition in Brooklyn. We were expecting impossibly-tall and wobbly creations, but instead what we saw was work of a more strictly representational form: jewelry, a cheeseburger and fries; and also some more conceptual work: a light bulb made from sweet jalapeno Jell-O (“light bulbs get hot”), a mold of a breast, enormous caviar, Jell-O functioning like shrinkwrap, and Carmen Miranda hats.

The grand prize winner was Kandice Levero and Julia Greene for their oversized jewelry “Jell-O Cocktail Trumpery.” In their words: “We created large, blingy cocktail stones of Jello set in colored gum paste settings. We wanted to play off the gelatin’s inherent properties such as its translucency and prismatic qualities.” The settings were dusted with real gold dust powder… (via)
